150 years of caring
2024 marked the 150th year since United Hebrew Charities was founded to serve Jewish immigrants from Central and Eastern Europe who were facing challenges in their new lives—finding jobs, paying rent, and addressing health concerns arising from overcrowded living conditions. The present-day Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services is not only the direct descendent of United Hebrew Charities but the culmination of more than 30 predecessor organizations that came together over the following decades to serve New York’s most vulnerable.
