Mary Pender Greene worked at The Jewish Board from 1984-2011. First recruited to open a new program in South Brooklyn, she was later appointed Chief of Social Work, becoming the first Black executive in the organization. Alongside then-CEO Alan Siskind, Pender Greene prioritized diversifying The Jewish Board’s clinical staff. During her tenure, to percentage of social work interns who were people of color grew from 0% to 50%. She also worked with Siskind and Levine to develop anti-racism training, culminating in the publication of several resources such as the 2002 anthology, Racism and Racial Identity: Reflections on Urban Practice in Mental Health and Social Services.
