Committee on the Care of Mentally Ill Refugees (Frances Taussig, chair; NCC material), 1939, Folder: 516, Reel: 25.6. National Refugee Service Records, RG 248. YIVO Institute for Jewish Research.
Frances Taussig was chair of the National Refugee Service’s Committee on the Care of Mentally Ill Refugees in her official capacity as Executive Director of the Jewish Social Service Association (JSSA).
Meeting minutes and correspondence between members of the committee and outside groups from 1939 provide a glimpse into the complexity and breadth of work that was being done by JSSA and many other social service agencies before and during World War II to support European refugees in the United States. This item and many other important collections documenting the work of the National Refugee Service period have been digitized by YIVO and are available (along with a very detailed finding aid) at https://archives.cjh.org/repositories/7/resources/3595
