Frances Taussig was chair of the National Refugee Service’s Committee on Foreign and Displaced Social Workers in her official capacity as Executive Director of the Jewish Social Service Association (JSSA).

Documents pertaining to a 1940 seminar on social service for refugees provide a glimpse into the complexity and breadth of work that was being done by JSSA and many other social service agencies before and during World War II to support European refugees in the United States.
