Fred Yerman, an attorney, has served in various capacities at The Jewish Board since the mid-1970s. First joining the Hawthorne Cedar Knolls divisional board, he later became a trustee and served as President in the 1990s. During his time as a trustee, he witnessed the merger of Jewish Family Service (JFS) and Jewish Board of Guardians (JBG) to create The Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services. As President, Yerman worked to diversify the board by creating an entry point for younger members to serve as “associates” on the equivalent of a junior board. His daughter Emily Steinman continues the family legacy as a current board member, exemplifying the multi-generational commitment that has characterized The Jewish Board’s leadership.
