Pierre Thomas worked at The Jewish Board from 1994-2024. Thomas’ own childhood—characterized by both disruption and caring adult support—motivated him to pursue a career in social work helping children and families. He first served as the Director of a school-based mental health program in Brownsville, Brooklyn, where he worked to overcome the stigma associated with mental health services among many teachers and parents. After some years working in clinics, he transitioned to working in Preventive Services, eventually rising to the position of Executive Program Director.  Thomas has spearheaded the adoption of several evidence-based models of care, which entailed significant shifts in how The Jewish Board approaches preventive services. He retired in 2024, shortly after conducting this interview.
