Ilene Margolin and Bruce Feig have collaborated with The Jewish Board since the 1970s largely in their capacities as New York State officials overseeing mental health and social services. As Executive Director of the New York State Council on Children and Families, Margolin worked with Jewish Board CEO Jerome Goldsmith to draft and pass the residential treatment facility (RTF) bill, which provided for expanded clinical capacity at sites such as Hawthorne Cedar Knolls. She then served in the Governor Hugh Carey administration as the Deputy Secretary for Health and Human Services, where she worked alongside Feig in his role as Executive Deputy Commissioner of the New York State Office of Mental Health. While in Albany, Margolin and Feig collaborated closely with Goldsmith as funding for mental health shifted from state hospitals to organizations like the Jewish Board, and as Medicaid effectively doubled the resources available for such services. Following their time in state government, both have continued to consult for The Jewish Board on various initiatives.
